MLBAMMLB Advanced Media, which provides video streaming and stats for Major League Baseball, learned a dramatic lesson during the days following Hurricane Sandy: Without power, company staffers were forced to haul gallons of diesel up six flights of stairs to fuel their generator and keep their data online.

That’s when they knew for sure they needed a back up — it was time for colocation.

So they asked Scott Data Center to step up to the plate. Now, 8,000 square feet of Scott Data Center space will be dedicated to housing and backing up MLB Advanced Media’s sizable data needs:

  • The stats: Whether it’s hitting, pitching or fielding, Scott Data Center will store data for every stat. With 30 franchises playing 162 games per year, that’s a lot of data.
  • The streaming: In just one season, the company generates 1.5 million gigabytes of live and on-demand baseball video.
  • Beyond baseball: MLB Advanced Media also streams video for a number of non-baseball clients, like World Cup soccer matches and March Madness basketball games. This year alone, the company will stream more than 20,000 live events. In all, they’ll create and store 6 million gigabytes of content every year.

Scott Data Center may be more than 200 miles from the nearest MLB franchise, but in a way, we’ll be home to them all.
